WEBMISTRESS speculates:
Well, here you have it, folks - love in its purest form. We're so used to hearing Stevie and Lindsey sing about unrequited love, love gone bad, loneliness, sadness, regret, anger... but there was a time before all that when they were two kids trying to make it in show business, madly in love. A time when all they had, literally, was each other. This song expresses their feelings for each other at that time.
From the way Stevie speaks about the song in concernt, it is evident that she wrote the lyrics. This a musician's love song - just like music and melody are an intrinsic part of their lives, so Lindsey is "ingrained in [her] soul". However, it's more than that - the music serves as something that intensifies their love, as they sing each other's songs and write about each other. It's like their love for music and for each other have combined into one glorious union, one that they were sure would last forever. Even Crystal, really the only comparable Stevie or Lindsey song in that it, too, expresses love without taint, doesn't match the ultimate tribute paid here.
All in all, a very sweet, moving song.
