Surfin' and Drivin'

Written: J. Zambetti, Sung: W. Egan; Guitar & Backup Vocal: L. Buckingham

Yeah 500 miles to L.A. 500 miles to my home When I get back to L.A. Never again will I roam   Surfin' and drivin' are the only two things I know Surfin' and drivin' are the only two things I know Once had a girl into me Thouht she loved me true Last night, I got a note she left me Took my money, now we're through Surfin' and drivin' are the only two things I know Surfin' and drivin' are the only two things I know I know! 500 miles to L.A. 500 miles to my home When I get back to L.A. Never again will I roam Surfin' and drivin' are the only two things I know Surfin' and drivin' are the only two things I know I once tried love But, like everyhing I do, it turned out wrong

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

I have to say, any songs about "surfin'" I'm already prejudiced against, because it's such a tired theme! This song is a little different, however, in that the surfer actually doesn't have a woman in the wings, and isn't located in California! And different is good!

VICTORIA speculates:

The webmistress just doesn't appreciate surf music. (I on the other hand, love it!)

Anyway, this song was actually not written by Walter Egan. It was written by his fellow Malibooz cohort John Zambetti, the true heart and soul of the Malibooz. (A version of this song with Zambetti on lead vocals appears on Malibooz Rule!) John also provides guitar and backing vocals on this track. [WM: I corrected it - thanks for the heads up, Victoria!]
