Mystified

Written by L. Buckingham and C. McVie; sung by C. McVie

Oh... Pretty baby This feeling I just can't hide You got me mystified Oh... Pretty darling This feeling is deep inside You got me mystified The light that shines around you It blinds my eyes There's a magic surrounds you Tell me where your secret lies Oh... Pretty darling This feeling is deep inside You got me mystified Oh... Pretty baby This feeling I just can't hide You got me mystified You got me mystified Mystified Mystified Mystified

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

As in World Turning, I am not sure who wrote what. If I were to guess, I'd say that Lindsey's contributions were mostly musical. However, I'm certainly not going to preclude the possibility that he wrote some of the lyrics as well. In general it's a song about someone who is fascinated with a person who's hard to figure out, a person's who's almost magic and hides a wealth of secrets. I imagine Lindsey could relate to what he didn't write!

DW speculates:

Christine wrote the music and says that Lindsey wrote the words, even though Chris sings it. If ever Lindsey wrote a more traditional, tender love song, this is it. I don't think Stevie was on his mind at all. I think this was for and about Cheri. It was written at a time when he and Cheri were still in a relatively new relationship in 85/maybe 86, and it's about discovering the mysteries of this new love. He doesn't really think he understands her yet, but it's clear that he's enthralled by her and will work hard to find out "where her secret lies." Beautiful song. I love everything about it.
