Underground

 Written by L. Buckingham

Give us a song, but don't live what you sing
Say what you mean, but please don't mean a thing
I think I might wander underground
I think I might wander underground
They heard fifteen seconds and that was enough
The idea was new, but the business was rough
I think I might wander underground
I think I might wander underground
I go to my lover, we lay on our bed
Did I sell my heart for the dreams in my head?
I think I might wander underground
I think I might wander underground

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

This seems to me to be a complaint against the music industry that has been both enemy and lover to Lindsey Buckingham. When he's a member of Fleetwood Mac, the industry can't wait be in bed with him; when he's a solo act, 15 seconds is plenty. "Don't call us, we'll call you." I think he is contemplating giving up efforts to be in the limelight and doing his own thing below the radar, "underground."
