Sea of Heartbreak

Written: David/Hampton; Sung: J. Cash; Guitar: L. Buckingham

The lights in the harbor don't shine for me I'm like a lost ship adrift on the sea The sea of heartbreak Lost love and loneliness Memories of your caress So divine, how I wish You were mine again my dear I'm on this sea of tears Sea of heartbreak Oh, how did I lose you? Oh, where did I fail? Why did you leave me? Always to sail Theis sea of heartbreak Lost love and loneliness Memories of your caress So divine, how I wish You were mine again, my dear I'm on this sea of tears Sea of heartbreak Oh, what I'd give just to sail back to shore Back to your arms once more Come to my rescue Oh, come here to me Take me and keep me Away from the sea Sea of heartbreak Lost love and loneliness Memories of your caress So divine, how I wish You were mine again, my dear I'm on this sea of tears Sea of heartbreak Sea of heartbreak Sea of heartbreak Sea of heartbreak

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

This song, like many country songs, overdoes the extended metaphor thing, but Lindsey's guitar comes through loud and clear. I have to admit, the chorus is catchy!

GREGORY speculates:

Because of its use in Heartbreak Ridge, this song takes me to unusual places. Growing up in NC and knowing the hard cases that were Marines and the wild minds and weird pieced together souls of men on the edge, this song puts an edge onto that psyche. For the men who see black and white in their relationships; losing a woman that means your heart, there is only one outcome, a bewildering sea of loss. And it is easy to get lost in the relentless motion of the sea. And yet there is a gentleness in its rocking motion and its permanence in the nature of the world. All these feelings churn through my soul when I hear this song.
