Walkin' on Water

Written: J. Hall; Sung: J. Riopelle; Backup Vocal: L. Buckingham

Stood on the wing when she wanted to fly me Put on the brake when she wanted to stop Oh, I cut the rope when she wanted to tie me Now I'm fishin' other lines Skinny women cross my mind I've been losin' too much time, oh, woah Well, I might be in hock tomorrow Halfway to my neck But if I gamble 'round I can win this town and its ladies Walkin' on water And I'd like to stay in this state of mind Walkin' on water Nearly knocked me to my knees Takin' all offers And I don't get paid just for wastin' time Nah, nah, woah, woah Nah, nah, nah, nah, woah, woah Came in the room, she was there with another Kicked in the doors when she said "Don't stop" Oh, no, shut out the light and I left her under the covers Now I'm fishin' other lines Skinny women cross my mind I'll be lovin' two this time, oh, woah Well, I might be in hock tomorrow Halfway to my neck But if I gamble 'round I can win this town and its ladies Walkin' on water And I'd like to stay in this state of mind Walkin' on water Nearly knocked me to my knees Takin' all offers And I don't get paid just for wastin' time Nah, nah, woah, woah Skinny women! Nah, nah, nah, nah, woah, woah Well, I might be in hock tomorrow Halfway to my neck But if I gamble 'round I can win this town and its ladies Walkin' on water And I'd like to stay in this state of mind Walkin' on water Nearly knocked me to my knees Takin' all offers And I don't get paid just for wastin' time Nah, nah, woah, woah Skinny women, oh! Nah, nah, nah, nah, woah, woah Skinny women! Nah, nah, nah, nah, woah, woah

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

OK, despite the fact that I love this album, there's always a stinker, and this one is it. Besides the fact that it's got a bad attitude, it just doesn't click for me - the only part I think is tolerable is the melody on the lines "And I'd like to stay in this state of mind", which you hear again in the line "And I don't get paid just for wastin' time." (P.S. You can't really hear Lindsey on this song anyway.)

BRUCE speculates:

Great song, saw him in concert at the Celebrity Theatre (in the round) in the early 1970's. And the album cover is by one of my favorite artists "Fritz Scholder" TAKE A CHANCE
