OK, this song is a little different take than the usual songs about fame! Lindsey has said that after having "mass adulation" it's hard to go back to living a normal life. I think you see that in this song. "Sensation sweet at my feet", I believe, refers to that "mass adulation" coming from the crowd at his feet as he's on the stage - that adulation that he has "such a strong appetite" for. He's getting "love from here, love from there" from all the fans, but it's only for the time of the show and then he has to go back to reality - he "only gets one bite."
The second verse, I believe, is talking about how hard that in-between, off-stage time is - then everybody's alone and breaking up, "everybody went stag," and, compared to that adoration of the crowds, "everybody was a drag"! By contrast, all that love from the crowd is anything but a drag. In fact, it's a big turn on, "working up to the loin." Perhaps this explains the...stimulating live version of Not That Funny where Lindsey sounds likes he's having a friggin' orgasm onstage! Whenever I hear that sucker I have to take a cold shower! (Just teasing - but dang! The man does put it all out there!)
In the next line, however, he talks about the other side of that coin - what's on the eye level of all those people in the crowd anyway? Well, "they look you straight in the groin!" I think this observation implies that the crowd's "love" is very shallow. They don't really see him at all - they objectify him, just staring at his groin, not looking up to see his face. They're either too intent on watching him play guitar...or perhaps some of the ladies are too intent on staring at his groin for other reasons! Indeed, during Rumours when his sex life was so prominent, a lot of girls were drawing hearts around his magazine photos! In either case, they don't love the real Lindsey, just the guitarist or the sex symbol. Despite this disparaging attitude towards the love of the crowd, he has to admit he craves it. That's what he's living for - "love from here" and "love from there."
