WEBMISTRESS speculates:
This song really fits the movie - which I love, by the way! - but does it have any personal significance for Lindsey? I think so, of course! I think Lindsey's "time bomb town" is L.A., which he's sung about before (see That's How We Do It in L.A.). There's a lot of ways to "go down" in L.A., and it's a "lonely" place, as he says in the aforementioned song from Law and Order. As for the "bad complication" and "strange information", that might refer to the complications and discoveries that one makes about fame in "this time bomb town" of L.A.
The way he sings it is odd - his voice is very clipped and staccatto. I'm not sure why he chose to do this, it sounds strange. Perhaps he's trying to make the song sound eerie, or perhaps he's trying to imitate a type of vocal technique that was used in the fifties (I've heard Elvis imitators that sing kind of like that). Whatever the reason, I find it oddly appealing. I like this song!
KEYSER speculates:
Several years ago I was watching the movie and I heard "Time Bomb Town" and thought "what the hell is that?". I had seen those movies before a few times when I was younger but had'nt noticed that song. I got the soundtrack record off ebay, and I rarely listen to the whole thing. Time Bomb Town is a kick-ass song, classic Lindsey Buckingham. Lindsey's singing is somewhat unusual, featuring plenty of strange vocal touches and breathy sounds which, in my opinion, add to the atmosphere and character of the song. This is another fine example of Lindsey Buckingham pushing the boundaries of what popular music can acheive in terms of songwriting, singing, arrangement and production.
