Flying Down Juniper

 Written by L. Buckingham

Fathers and mothers all those years ago Did you ever, did you ever know My sisters and my brothers all dead and gone Did you know that wishing don't make it so All the children flying down juniper All going where children go All the children flying down juniper Let us go And did you ever wonder the places we would go And did you realize we felt your woe All the children flying down juniper All going where children go All the children flying down juniper Let us go If we forgive ourselves we might be whole But you know that wishing, wishing won't make it so All the children flying down juniper All going where children go All the children flying down juniper Let us go Let us go

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

While Lindsey has one brother still alive at the time of the release of Under the Skin (2006), he had lost both parents and his other brother. This song looks back at childhood, when no one thought about death - they just played, carefree, never imagining that one day it would be over. Perhaps he carries some survivor's guilt; certainly, he feels sadness and regret about what would never be. However, he understands that one must reconcile oneself to reality, not waste one's time futilely wishing things were different.

This song marks another occasion where Lindsey repeats a lyrical thread: the line "flying down juniper" also appears in Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind.
