WEBMISTRESS speculates:
This is another song about fame, but unlike songs such as Garbo, this one is more positive. It's odd because she wrote this song after Buckingham Nicks got ditched by Polydor, but she's put herself in the shoes of a successful person - the person she became! This person "never thought [she'd] make it here in Hollywood" but she has, everything is going her way now. Even though it may be transitory, it's all she knows, and it's all worth it for the "feeling" that "remains even after the glitter fades." Still, it causes a lot of heartbreak and loneliness - performing is like a "one night stand" - you're there, you get all this love, and then you pull up and leave. But while the surge of love may be fleeting, the feeling isn't, and that's what's important - it cancels out all the lies and hardships and gives her the impetus to keep chasing the dream.
SIOUX speculates:
This song is defiantly an in-your-face to Lindsay song. I love the part about "the timeless face of a rock and roll woman when her heart breaks." She went on without Linds, and it hurt. I think Lindsay was her glitter and their relationship went sour, it faded.
