I Sing for the Things

Written by S. Nicks

You say I have everything Well, I'm living on dreams and chains But I sing for the things money can't buy You say you don't believe Well, could you just look at me? Well, look deep into my eyes, my love Well, have you even been in love? Have you touched the soul of someone? Did the fear inside you make you turn and run? I'll take off my cape for you I'll take down my hair for you Anything you want me to do, my love Well, I'll sit home and wait for you Ooh, darling, there's nothing that I'd rather do Anything you want me to do, my love Have you even been in love? Have you touched the soul of someone, baby? Did the fear inside you make you turn and run, baby? You say I have everything Well, I've been living on some dreams and some chains But I sing for the things money can't buy me Have you even been in love? Have you touched the soul of someone? Did the fear inside you make you turn and run, baby? Did the fear inside you make you turn and run Make you turn and run Make you turn and run away from me Anything...my love...

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

In this song, Stevie says that she may have fame, but she doesn't have love, which is the thing that really drives her music - she doesn't do it for the money (see Sisters of the Moon). All you have to do is look into her eyes to know that she's telling the truth. She's been in love, but she got scared and decided to "turn and run." She regrets that now, and she will do anything for the man she loves - she'll reveal her true self, make herself vulnerable, "let down [her] hair for" him. She'd rather wait for him than do anything else; he's everything to her. And wasn't it fame that killed her love with Lindsey? I guess there are things that "money can't buy."
