Candlebright

Written by S. Nicks

For no special reason I am leaving you for a while tonight I'm flying far above you Still I love you You make things right I've been with you before I'll be with you again I'll come back for more, yeah The story has a strange ending Well, you know me, I'm a nomad I can't feel bad About the way I am I've been rolling around My whole life You're my candlebright in the window You guide me back again And I come when you shine You are not my friend, no But I am something of a dreamer I am something of a dreamer I am something of a dreamer Well, you know me, I'm a nomad I can't feel bad About the way I am I've been rolling around My whole life You're my candlebright in the window You guide me back again And I come when you shine You are not my friend, no But I am something of a dreamer I am something of a dreamer I am something of a dreamer Still I love you My candlebright... And you are not my friend ...In the window But still I love you You're my candlebright... Still I love you ....In the window But you are not my friend You're my candlebright... But still I love you ...In the window I can't feel bad Still I love you I can't feel bad Still I love you...

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

"I'll be your candle on the water" - oh, wait, that's Pete's Dragon. But, seriously, this song is about a girl who always wants to leave, hates being tied down, yet there's one person who can keep her "com[ing] back for more." Even though she still longs to "fly," he has the ability to call her back. Stevie might consider herself a free spirit, but when it comes to Lindsey, she needs him more than she needs her freedom. While she still wants to be alone sometimes, she can never stay away from him too long: his pull is too strong. He is the one man who can make her want to end her wanderings and come back home. Since this was written when they were young and in love, headed to Los Angeles together to make it, it's no wonder that she feels that pull so strongly...and yet, still, "you are not my friend" - an idea similar to the love/hate thing going on in Frozen Love. More trouble in the Shangri-La for the "perfect" musical and romantic union! By the way, Stevie has named this as one of the original six demos she and Lindsey shopped around in 1972 when they were trying to get signed. It finally made it onto an album almost thirty years later!

WWDove1 speculates:

This song was originally recorded as "Nomad" by Stevie and Lindsey in their Buckingham Nicks days. The Trouble in Shangri-La version is very close to the demo version.
