WEBMISTRESS speculates:
I can't say much about this; Stevie didn't write it, so maybe she just put it on here as a favor to one of her producers, John Shanks. She has said, however, that this is a "theme" album - and indeed, there are many similar ideas throughout - so, in that context, perhaps this fits in as being crossed in love. That's definitely something that causes trouble in paradise!
AMY speculates:
This just seems like the basic love song, without much depth or passion. I could be wrong, but I think that Stevie heard this song after finding a CD of it on her assistant's desk and mistaking it for Buddy Holly's Everyday. She must have liked something about it, because she met it's author, John Shanks, and went to his house to record the song. From there he became the one who understood the songs Sheryl Crow didn't get and produced the really cool rockers on the album.
KIASORCERER speculates:
I love this song & the very sound of Stevie's voice singing it on the TISL CD. The 1st part, Don't keep me hanging on a string...., to me feels like someone being in love with someone else, they know it but rather than giving you an answer they just keep letting you believe something could happen. "Tell me what I feel is no big thing" to me is saying if nothing is gonna happen then at least tell me its ok that I feel this way. "Don't give me visions to explain"... is saying, don't give me false hope. Acknowledge the love that I have for you but rather than keep silent let me know if it could ever go somewhere. "It's not important to wonder why".... feels like finally she realizes that it's never gonna happen but still her love for the person is there & will never die, "this simple thought repeating over & over again."
