It's Only Love

Written by S. Crow

I think I met my match again Passing 'round the candlelight In the center of this blizzard You stood and melted all the ice Ah, it's only love Ah, it's only love Ah, if only love comes around again It will have been Worth the ride You were master of many But savior to none I waged all of my hopes so plenty On you, now look what I've become Ah, it's only love Ah, it's only love Ah, if only love comes around again It will have been Worth the ride What a ride Someday's lonely is not only A word, but faces I have known And if you see me, could you free me With a smile, so I can let go Ah, it's only love Ah, it's only love Ah, if only love comes around again It will have been Worth the ride

Sheryl Crow released this herself on the album "C'mon C'mon" (2002)

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

Stevie's friend Sheryl Crow wrote this, but I think it might have some personal relevance for Stevie. Lines like "master to many" are reminiscent of the control issue brought up in songs like Planets of the Universe on this album, for instance. And the lines about pinning all of one's hopes on another person reminds me a lot of the "I built my life around you" line from Landslide. Indeed, Stevie did follow Lindsey's lead to fame, but I think she resented that. The "package deal" idea doesn't appeal to her nearly as much as it appeals to Lindsey! After all, we've all heard Lindsey say that plenty of times, but how many times have we heard Stevie say it? Zero. But the fact that this song relates all that while still remaining a love song also expresses Stevie's conflicting feelings for Lindsey. She and Sheryl are definitely in sync!
