Beautiful Ghost

Written by S. Nicks

Lookin' back just once to you Well, I was beyond in my belief That I was angry, tragic emotion, tragic... And the girl next door who makes potions She says I should try to forget But as far as she could see I was going down fast Beautiful ghost They say, well, you can walk on water Even if you want to Even if you believe it This is the mystic Well, I just can't seem to get back to the crystal And the funny thing was that that girl was wrong She was seldom wrong, they said Her visions to the very last moment They almost always came true You did not have to trust her She never trusted you She never trusted you I should try to forget But as far as the blind could see I was going down fast Like a beautiful ghost Well, they said that you can walk on water If and when you believe it If and when you want it This is the mystic This is the crystal But I just can't seem to get back to the crystal So she sits there silently Praying "I have waited for you all my life" And now I am doubting and the time is running out She stands still, frozen to the ground Beautiful ghost Say that you can walk on water If and when you believe it If and when you believe it This is the crystal She's a mystic Well, I just can't seem to get back to the crystal Well, like a beautiful ghost Like a beautiful ghost They say that you can walk on water If and when you believe it Ooh, this is the crystal Would you believe it? Then this is the mystic She says "I just can't seem to get back to the crystal" To the crystal I just can't seem to get back...

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

This song is a little weird! I'll give it my best shot. Stevie wrote this for The Other Side of the Mirror, but it didn't make the cut. I think the "beautiful ghost" represents another side of Stevie, and elusive, mystical side (obviously) and also her creative side. Maybe she was feeling a little less "inspired" after getting off of cocaine only to get hooked on pain-killers. She just can't seem to get those creative juices flowing. She tells herself that she should just believe in herself, forget everthing else and trust her own talents. Then she could do anything - even "walk on water." Her head may know this, but in her heart, she's still doubting. And until she regains her confidence in herself, she will remain "frozen to the ground," unable to "get back to the crystal" and shine again.
