Belle Flower

Written by S. Nicks

Men and women livin' in a canyon Canyon dancin' all night long They form a circle, hand in hand Are you with me, lady stranger? His voice rings, "Are you looking for a man?" Will you dance with me? Will you dance with me, baby? It's only love, it's just love Will you dance with me? Ooh, ooh, Belle Flower This is no ticket for dreamland A garden for fevers to grow in As I run through the door of the long black car Belle, will you dance with me? Will you dance with me, baby? It's only love, it's just love Wll you dance with me? Belle Fleur, Belle Flower Will you dance with me? And the days go by So do I Sun sets down, sunrise Sing to me a lullaby Sing to me of the daytime I will sing you a story of moonlight Will you dance with me, baby? It's only love, it's just love Will you dance with me, baby? And the days go by So do I Sun sets down...sing me a sunrise I will sing to you of the nighttime Sing to me a lullaby I will sing you the story of moonlight Will you dance with me, baby? It's only love, it's just love Ooh, Belle Flower

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

This song is "a story of moonlight," a Gone With the Wind type of scene with dancing and a man coming up to ask a beautiful stranger to dance with him. A nice little fantasy.

VIOLETBLUE speculates:

I always thought that "Belle Fleur" was a Bella Donna outtake, rather than TWH, as it's been reported, and it represented to me the first time she became aware that she had "made" it:

This is no ticket for dreamland...
a garden for people to grow in
as I run to the door...
of the long black car...

When she talks about "men and women living in the canyon" I think about that grand time in 70s - and I know in a sense she's quoting the Joni Mitchell song - but also talking about becoming a part of that group, the romance of it, of meeting new people and being desired.
