I Need to Know

Written by T. Petty; Sung by S. Nicks

Talk on the town says I might go solo A good friend of mine saw you leavin' by your back door I need to know, I need to know Well, if you say you're gonna leave then you better say so I need to know, I need to know Because I don't know how long Well, I can hold on If you're makin' me wait And you're leadin' me on I need to know I need to know Well, who would've thought that I'd fall for his lies? All of a sudden it's me on the outside I need to know, I need to know Well, if you say you're gonna leave then you better say so I need to know, I need to know Because I don't know how long Well, I can hold on If you're makin' me wait And you're leadin' me on I need to know I need to know I need to know, I need to know Well, if you say you're gonna leave then you better say so I need to know, I need to know Because I don't know how long Well, I can hold on If you're makin' me wait And you're leadin' me on I need to know I need to know I need to know Take your violet and blue mornings with you

While this can be heard on some of Stevie's live videos such as "Live at Red Rocks," you're only going to find it on bootleg CDs like this recording of Stevie at Dallas, Texas in 1986. On the videos I think she sings it with Tom Petty, but here she is doing it solo. It's a fun song - while sparse lyrically, it has a good beat. Oh, and Stevie adds that part at the end from Violet and Blue - just to make it her own, I guess!

LAUREN speculates:

This is a great, catchy little song! I think Stevie should record it! I personally think she does it way better than Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! Just a thought: At the end of this song, Stevie shouts "Take you violet and blue mornings with you!". She probably does this because in the song "Violet and Blue" she sings the words "I need to know now." And, well...this song is called "I Need To Know."
