Lily Girl

Lyrics written by S. Nicks; Music by Kenny G.

One found out
All of the sudden
What was going on
And this made you mad
And you said, "I'm not gonna do this anymore
Well, I can't live like this"

She was a lily girl
Not made for this world
Veiled eyes covering nights of tears, nights of tears
Like the blue, blue water in the crystal fountains
Well, I, I simply could not believe it
One found out
All of the sudden

We don't have so very much in common
You don't have very much to say
So you tell me what it is that you are wanting
You just look at me with those sighs and say nothing

And we don't talk to each other
Every day
In fact, sometimes weeks go by
And we don't speak

And then something in the mail comes
She goes a little bit into shock
It says, "I'll see you tomorrow night, baby"
Oh, it's bad, something's gotta go wrong, I know

She was a lily girl
Not made for this world
Veiled eyes covering night of tears
Night of tears

We don't talk to each other
Every day
In fact, sometimes weeks go by
We don't speak

We don't have very much in common
And we don't have very much to say
Would you just tell me what it is that you're wanting from me?
You just look at me with those eyes
And you say nothing

One found out
All of the sudden
What was going on

She was a lily girl
Not made for this world

We found out
All of the sudden
What was going on
What made you mad when you said,
"We don't have so very much in common anyway"
And you don't have anything else to say
We don't talk to each other Every day, no Sometimes we don't talk for weeks And weeks go by We don't speak Just everything about this is just too good to be true Something's going to go wrong, I know And you wake up in the middle of the night It was just a bad dream, baby No, it was a nightmare And it started a fight It was a bad dream, baby She was a lily girl

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

This rather incoherent demo shares music and a great deal of lyrics with Tragedy of One's Own Soul, although that one is far superior. This must have been very early, as there is no clear logic to this song - things seem to be going poorly, yet suddenly they're too good to be true? What got found out? Lily? Blue water? Crystal fountains? It sounds like Stevie's just pulling random stuff out of her lyrical grab bag to help her figure out what the tune should be. There's nothing wrong with that - she got a great demo once she pruned it, the aforementioned Tragedy of One's Own Soul. Look there for my speculations about what she finally meant once she edited the lyrics down to something that made more sense. The additional lyrics here, as I said before, are all from the grab-bag. The one exception: "Veiled eyes covering nights of tears." I actually like that a lot. Too bad it got discarded in the transition.
