Poor Me

Written: L. Edwards and S. Nicks; Sung: Liza Jane Edwards

I'm sad, and I'm blue And I'm crying for you And I don't know what I'm living for Yes, darlin', I'm hurtin' I ache to the core For I know you love me no more Poor me, poor me Pour me another one 'Cause I just can't pretend anymore Just the other night, I was out drinking And acting so cool But inside, these tears fell like rain And my poor heart was just repairing When you walked through that door And now it's breaking once more Poor me, poor me Pour me another one I just can't pretend anymore Yes, I'm sorry for myself I know I'm the fool But lately, don't matter to me So I'm trying to forget you I know when I do Tomorrow, I'll cry not for you Poor me, poor me Pour me another one I just can't pretend anymore Poor me, poor me Pour me another one I just can't pretend anymore I just can't pretend anymore I just can't pretend anymore

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

This song was never released, but Liza Jane Edwards has performed it live. It is a collaboration between her and Stevie. It's country to the core - got the twang, got the cute pun, got the drinkin' and the cryin' and the 'tears in my beer over you' attitude! While I was living in Texas, I heard plenty of these! I like this one, though. I wonder if Stevie's contributions were mostly musical, or did she write some of the lyrics? Probably a little of both. After all, her granddaddy was a country musician.

MICHAEL speculates:

Last year I emailed Liza Jane and asked her about this song. She told me that on the last night of the BEHIND THE MASK tour in December 1990, she & Stevie were a little sad about the tour ending, and, as they walked to the car, Stevie started singing, "Poor me, pour me another beer!" This started the song they wrote that night. Liza Jane said that Stevie wrote most of the words, and they worked on the music together. She said they wrote it as kind of a beer joint song.
