WEBMISTRESS speculates:
I don't really see this song as too autobiographical because Stevie herself is certainly not hurting for money, yet the lover of the woman in the song seems to be leaving her for a suger "mommy" so to speak. What I don't get is why it's called "mystical love." Is Stevie being sarcastic? That's not par for the course for a Stevie song, but it would certainly make sense in this context, since dating a woman for her money is hardly "mystical."
RUISRYAN speculates:
I think this is Stevie's way of asking Lindsey: "Is this the way you feel, to sit there, making beautiful music while I work my ass off to pay the bills?" And this of course refers to the time when Stevie supported them both before joining FM. I think the part where she says "I guess you've found a mystical love that glows in the night time..." Is her way of mocking their relationship, and saying, 'you only see the part of me that is your honey dream, the part that you fell in love with years ago, but that's not really me.'
I have a wild guess about what "Rich Old Lady (Mystical Love)" is about - Stevie Nicks IS the "Rich Old Lady!" - She's telling The Hero of Our Story that she's heard a - uhm - RUMOR, that things between the two of them are now good and they feel love for each other again.
But "she's not me" - she's no longer the young woman he fell in love with - although there was enough of that person still left to write the song. . . .
I really don't understand the last line, "I don't wanna be with you while she's asleep," but it's REALLY intriguing! Maybe she's saying that it's best if they only be together (on tour, etc.) when she's thinking straight and remembering the wisdom she's gained over the years, instead of times when she may "revert" a little to the young person inside her who still loves him so deeply....
