WEBMISTRESS speculates:
The first things I noticed about this song were the re-use of the line "slow down baby" from Show You How and the re-use of "precious time." In Show You How, however, it's the woman talking to Lindsey, telling him to slow down. Now, it's him talking.
Lindsey sounds very vulnerable in this song, which is not typical for him. This is a far cry from the man angrily insisting "I Know I'm Not Wrong." He's reached a point in his life where he's ready to end the bravado, the posturing, the pretense. The insecure young man who was desperate to prove he didn't need anyone and couldn't be hurt is now ready to admit that he was kidding himself and that it "was all for you". Still, the damage remains; if she wants to save him from his past, it will take time to rebuild.
