I know there's nothing to say Someone has taken my place When times go bad When times go rough Won't you lay me down in the tall grass And let me do my stuff I know I got nothin' on you I know there's nothing to do When times go bad And you can't get enough Won't you lay me down in the tall grass And let me do my stuff Do it! One thing I think you should know I ain't gonna miss you when you go Been down so long I've been tossed around enough Oh, couldn't you just Let me go down and do my stuff I know you're hopin' to find Someone who's gonna give you peace of mind When times go bad When times go rough Won't you lay me down in the tall grass And let me do my stuff Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! I'm just second hand news I'm just second hand news, yeah I'm just second hand news I'm just second hand news, yeah I'm just second hand news I'm just second hand news, yeah I'm just second hand news I'm just second hand news, yeah Yeah

WEBMISTRESS speculates:
Everyone knows that Lindsey and Stevie were breaking up at this time, and this song is one of the many about it. Lindsey realizes that she's left him, found somebody else to "take [his] place." He wishes they could solve their problems the old fashioned way - with sex. When those two couldn't connect any other way, they still had that. But there's "nothing to do" now, Stevie has gone and "there's nothing to say" about it. Lindsey's telling her here that if she can't find "peace of mind" with whoever's she with, she can always depend on him for some good lovin' - and he also hopes that will bring her back to him. At this point, however, he's just "second-hand news."
