Countdown

Written by L. Buckingham

Well, I'm waiting on the countdown Sitting in the shade Things about to turn around How the madness fades Oh, I've been waiting on the countdown Things about to turn around And now I'm out of the lost and found Just waiting on the countdown Right through your fingers Time slips away Oh, this feeling lingers Right here I'm going to stay Oh, I've been waiting on the countdown Things about to turn around And now I'm out of the lost and found Just waiting on the countdown So I'm sitting in the shade Under the dreaming tree Now the madness fades Right here I'm going to be Oh, I've been waiting on the countdown Things about to turn around And now I'm out of the lost and found Just waiting on the countdown Oh, I've been waiting on the countdown Things about to turn around And now I'm out of the lost and found Just, just waiting on the countdown

Out of the Cradle is all about fresh starts, and this is no exception. I think Lindsey is talking about the time right before he left Fleetwood Mac, when he knew that his leaving was just a matter of time. He's on a "countdown" to get outta there, but he's very positive about leaving. Planning to leave makes the "madness fade" and takes him "out of the lost and found." He knows just what he wants to do, and he feels like "things [are] about to turn around." Apparently, at this point, Lindsey feels like Fleetwood Mac is destroying him, and that leaving it is going to be a kind of rebirth. He's "waiting on the countdown" until the beginning of his new life. It's a very peppy song and I like it - but then again I like pretty much all of the songs on this album....well, I don't like This is the Time very much, but even it's not too bad.

An interesting note: I had a friend use this for his wedding reception! At first I was surprised, but he wanted Lindsey, and when you think about it, does Lindsey have ANY real love songs? There's Mystified, but he doesn't sing it; there's Crystal, but he didn't write it. And sex songs don't count! In light of that, this is a good choice; it is definitely the right attitude to have about starting married life!
