One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star

Written by S. Nicks

I told you last night - or did you tell me? I think that it was me and I know that you heard it I was crazy about you, that's how it always was Do you think about me now as I sing about this love? When it rains, it pours When there's no one at the door Yes, he did send me flowers Well, that was a long time ago Sounded good on a Delicate white-ribbon card "One more big time rock and roll star" Just what I need As you walk away, you know that I will call If it's just to say goodnight, and that is all Well, alright, that's a lie, she says she wanted you to stay But you know much better than she She's better off this way When it rains, it pours When there's no one at the door Yes, he did send me flowers Well, that was a long time ago Sounded good on a Delicate white-ribbon card "One more big time rock and roll star" Just what I need Undercover music lover Undercover music lover Oh, undercover music lover and an art lover like me There were candles, crystals, I was anyone's fantasy Say I'm not 'cause the work just gets harder The work gets... Oh, one more big time... One more big time... One more big time... It sounded good on a delicate white-ribbon card...

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

Stevie opens this song remembering a past love (of course I vote for Lindsey), and she wonders if the songs she sings about him make him think about her (Stevie doesn't want Lindsey to forget about her - see Silver Springs). Still, it's over now. She's flooded with problems, and "there's no one at the door." She hasn't received flowers in a long time, and while the meaning of this next part is a little unclear, I think the message on the ribbon of the flowers - "One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star" - is representative of what killed Stevie and Lindsey's relationship - fame. Stevie remarks caustically that it's "just what I need" - but it's the love she's missing.

In the second verse she talks about how, when he left her, she "wanted [him] to stay" although she tries to pretend that she's ok with it. (Of course, we all know Stevie left Lindsey first, but it went back and forth so many times that no doubt she felt he left her as well). Then, the curious line that "you know much better than she she's better off this way" - she attributes this feeling to Lindsey, but she is the one who is always saying their breakup was for the best (see Street Angel). A little role reversal? The song ends with Stevie singing about how it once was - they were so in sync with their music and their art, it was like a fantasy. (Also, "undercover music lover" might have a double meaning - her lover's a musician, and they were under the covers a lot!) At any rate, that rare love is gone, but was it worth it just to become "one more big time rock and roll star"?

KELLY speculates:

This is the real deal. Don Henley really sent her those roses with that same inscription "One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star." No joke. So it's about him, babe. And again, she knows he's not gonna be there for her in the long run (Long Run get it?) but, she still has the hots for him. So, she's gonna call to say good night even if that's all. But THE REAL MEANING BEHIND THIS SONG is: she did get over him, and at the beginning she's remembering: I told you last night, or did you tell me. I think that it was me, and I know that you heard it. I was crazy about you, thats the way it always was, DO YOU THINK ABOUT ME NOW AS I SING ABOUT THIS LOVE..... She's remembering the good parts, how they met, the candles, the crystals, and how he wasn't there. And how she missed him, but its ok now, but I still want you to know it was the real thing - for me.

ANDRE specualtes:

This song is obviously about Don Henley. She has already gone on record to say so.

He sent her flowers (roses). The "delicate white ribbon card read "One More Big Time R & R Star". Just what I need - is a double edge sword. They were such kindred spirits..but Don is a player...ask Sheryl Crow. He was and still is.She struggled with all these issues for years.

The Highwayman..same issues. The things that brought them together also kept them apart.
