Enchanted

Written by S. Nicks

Crying in the morning, trying to be strong Waiting for the spring to turn into the fall Love don't mean what it says at all And my destiny says that I'm destined to fall Enchanted You thought you saw something in my eyes Enchanted It's a shame that you wanted me You didn't try Why the sad face...oh, darling Was it my darkness...shadow light I mean to cause no trouble for you That is the story of my life Enchanted You thought you saw something in my eyes Enchanted It's a shame that you wanted me You didn't try Enchanted Woah, it's just a voice through the night Enchanted Well, I hope you make it You were gone, you were gone from me When I remember someone, I remember their dreams In those dreams that no one knows of My destiny says that I'm destined to run Enchanted Ooo, you saw something in my eyes Enchanted It's a shame that you wanted me You didn't try Enchanted Well, it's just a voice through the night Enchanted Well, I hope you make it Enchanted Well, I hope you make it Woah, woah, woah I hope you make it Woah, woah, woah I hope you make it Hey, hey, hey I hope you make it Hey, hey, hey I hope you make it

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

The opening words, which also appear later in Stevie's song Destiny, paint a picture of a woman who is grieving a lost love - she's sad, but she's "trying to be strong", waiting for time to pass and heal the wounds that were caused by a love that "don't mean what it says at all." She mourns that she is "destined to fall." She says that he might have been "enchanted" by the look in her eyes and he may have wanted her, but he "didn't try" and therefore it couldn't happen between them. She wonders what scared him off - she says she didn't intend to cause him "trouble" but, oh, well, that seems to be what she does despite her intentions - "that is the story of my life." When she says, "I hope you make it", I think she's being sarcastic. Kinda like "So you think you can just not try and find love? Good luck with that, man!" He's gone now, and she's gotta "run" away from his memory.

Stevie has said that the "you" in this song was a man who, back in the early 70s, she considered leaving Lindsey for. Well, I for one am glad this guy dissed her so that she followed her destiny back to Lindsey!

KELLY speculates:

You're probably right on about this one...He wanted her, but he could'a had her. She's probably kinda p.o.'d that he didn't try, but Stevie's not gonna resort to beggin' a man. He's gotta come to her.
