Listen to the wind blow Watch the sun rise Run in the shadows Damn your love Damn your lies And if You don't love me now You will never love me again I can still hear you saying You would never break the chain And if You don't love me now You will never love me again I can still hear you saying You would never break the chain Listen to the wind blow Down comes the night Run in the shadows Damn your love Damn your lies Break the silence Damn the dark Damn the light And if You don't love me now You will never love me again I can still hear you saying You would never break the chain And if You don't love me now You will never love me again I can still hear you saying You would never break the chain And if You don't love me now You will never love me again I can still hear you saying You would never break the chain Chain...keep us together (Runnin' in the shadows) Chain...keep us together (Runnin' in the shadows) Chain...keep us together (Runnin' in the shadows) Chain...keep us together (Runnin' in the shadows) Chain...keep us together (Runnin' in the shadows)....

WEBMISTRESS speculates:

While Lindsey sings this, Stevie wrote the lyrics - although Lindsey wrote that awesome guitar part! I have to say this is one of my favorites. It really rocks! While the lyrics are a little vague, one thing's for sure - it's about a love that's not working out. "Love" is cursed because it is accompanied by "lies." If one partner of the relationship can't love the right way then it'll never happen - "you'll never love me again." Still, there's regret in the line "I can still hear you saying you would never break the chain." There's a sense of betrayal there - what happened to that promise? Why has the relationship been broken apart? For those of you saying, "What, Stevie wrote this and she's the one who left?" See Dreams for my explanation of that phenomenon. Plus, Stevie is allowed creative license, isn't she? Although Lindsey might disagree (a la Eyes of the World!)

At the end, still, there's still a link between them, and the person wants to maintain it - "chain keep us together". I've heard Stevie say that the chain was also about FM, and how they were all links in that FM chain that she didn't want broken - she didn't want Lindsey out of her life completely, if you ask me. Look at Fireflies and No Questions Asked. There's something to Lindsey's frustration with her in my opinion - she could never really cut the cord, and until she did, Lindsey couldn't either.
